John Fiala, Head Coach and Linebackers
Coach Fiala's passion for football has truly been his entire life. He started his football career in 5th grade followed by playing at both University of Washington and in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers. This is his fourth season as Head Coach for the Cedarcrest High School although he has played a role as coach locally in both Jr. Red Wolves Football program as well as Cedarcrest Lacrosse. Coach Fiala is a longtime resident of Duvall with his family including wife and three children. John is incredibly passionate about the game of football, the growth of each individual and building a family of champions for our future. He can’t wait to have our community show their Red Wolves spirit this season. Go Red Wolves!
Mitch bair, OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR & QUARTERBACKS
coach bair is from issaquah, wa and has been coaching football for 8 years. after graduating from washington state, he began coaching youth football for a year before spending 2 seasons at interlake high school as the head jv coach and varsity wr coach. he then coached wr/db/qb the next 5 seasons at hazen high school. in 2020 coach bair moved to duvall with his wife megan and daughter dakota. he is excited to give back to the community and continue his coaching career at cedarcrest high school.
Brandon Savage, head jv Coach and defensive line
Coach Savage has been coaching football for 7 years. In addition to coaching the Offensive Line, he is also Director of Football for the Junior Red Wolves. He lives in Duvall with his wife Brooke and children Jack and Aria. He formerly played football at Inglemoor High School. He enjoys spending time with family, great music and working hard to ensure football is alive and well in the valley.
Jeff Gerde, Kickers
Coach Gerde is joining us for his 4th season with a heavy emphasis on kicking, punting and long snapping technique. Coach Gerde enjoys golfing, camping and College football.
MITCH TOLSON - RUNNING BACKS
coach tolson TOLSON’S LOVE FOR FOOTBALL STARTED IN 6TH GRADE WHERE HE’S SPENT THE MAJORITY OF YEARS SINCE PLAYING OR COACHING THE SPORT. TOLSON HAS COACHED ALL SIDES OF THE BALL AND NEARLY ALL POSITIONS AT YOUTH LEVELS. “HUSTLE FROM THE HEART”, “EXECUTION EXCELLENCE” AND TEAMWORK ARE THREE KEY AREAS TOLSON FOCUSES ON TO HELP INDIVIDUALS REALIZE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL ON AND OFF THE FIELD. WHEN NOT COACHING you will find him SPENDING TIME WITH THE FAMILY, IN THE GYM, or BUILDING ROBOTS.
Pete Hartzell, Defensive Coordinator and secondary
Coach Hartzell has 13 years varsity football coaching experience with Woodinville and Monroe coaching defensive backs, linebackers and defensive coordinator. Pete grew up in Monroe and ran track and played football. He graduated from Central Washington University where he was a four-year letter-man and honorable mention all-league Cornerback. Coach Hartzell also spent five years playing semi-pro football for Snohomish County Vikings. Pete and his wife Cindy have two daughters, Maya and Tatum, a boxer named Lulu, a hound dog, Casey and two cows. He enjoys his family, rooting for CWU and Wazzu, traveling and hanging out at the beach.
Braden Richey – wide receivers
Coach Richey grew up in Oregon and has enjoyed football from an early age. He graduated from Northwest university adn began teaching in 2004. this will be his 20th year coaching football. he spent the past 13 years as an asst coach at skyline high school and led 2 teams to the state championship as the QB coach. For the past 3 years he has been the offensive coordinator. he teaches health/pe and has a passion for positively impacting youth on adn off the field. the family moved to carnation in 2019 and loves the valley community.
mark bender, wide receivers
coach bender grew up in lincoln, NE where the college football stadium is the third largest city in the state on game day. in high school he competed in football, track & field and later went on the be a decathlete at u. south dakota and then transferred to fort lewis college to play football for a while. he is a 16yr duvall resident and has previously coached other valley youth sports. mark and his wife have 4 boys all who have or are attending chs.
Jonas Lawson = Offensive line
Coach Lawson has been coaching football for 25 years at both the junior and high school levels. He has coached for Issaquah High School, Interlake High School, Five Star and Issaquah junior programs. This is his 6th year at Cedarcrest. When not coaching, Coach Lawson enjoys camping, golfing and watching the Seahawks.
Jesse Prohn - Special Teams and Half backs
Coach Prohn has been coaching in the Duvall and Carnation area for the last 13 years. He has coached football, baseball, basketball and soccer. He has a passion for sports and teaching kids and young adults about working together to reach a goal. Most importantly, how to do so while having FUN. You can find Coach Prohn at all of the local golf courses enjoying a round of golf.
Makenzi weber - head trainer
makenzi weber joined the cedarcrest family as the head athletic trainer in october of 2023. weber comes to cedarcrest from the collegiate setting where she spent time as athletic trainer at utep, northwestern state university and the university of tulsa working with various women’s sports. makenzi is a graduate of washington state university where she received a bachelor’s degree in athletic training in may of 2020. makenzi also completed a master’s degree in health and human performance with an emphasis in sports administration at northwestern state university of louisiana in december of 2022. a native of bothell, makenzi returned home to washington with her husband coles and daughter amelia.
